Candida Overgrowth

Supplements for Candida

Candida overgrowth...

Candida is a fungus that is present on the skin and in several mucous membranes, such as the vagina, mouth or rectum.

The fungus is also capable of traveling through the blood stream, and can affect the throat, intestines and valves of the heart.

Candida develops into an infection when some body system fails to keeps its growth in check and it is allowed to grow out of control.

One very common cause of candida is having treated another infection you have with an antibiotic, and that antibiotic in turn killed off certain naturally occurring bacteria, which were responsible for monitoring candida production.

The result is what is known as candidiasis moniliasis -- also called a yeast infection. This condition is referred to in different ways, depending on the site of the growth of the candida.

If the infection is in the mouth, it is called thrush. If it occurs directly on the skin as a rash, it is called diaper rash. And if it leads to vaginalitis moniliasis, it is known as the vaginal yeast infection.

Any of the above infections arise from candida overgrowth. There are certain processes in the body that are responsible for keeping candida at a healthy, productive level. When those processes fail, the candida is allowed to overgrow and leads to infection in the areas where the candida overgrowth occurred.

Given the knowledge that is available on how the infections occur, there are several available natural supplements that are designed to target one (or many) of the parts of either the process or the yeast product that leads to an infection.

Supplements for candida

There are several supplements available to combat the overgrowth of candida.

Each offers there own combination of materials to reduce the growth of the altered candida that develops the infection.

Some are manufactured only for the purpose of killing the yeast that develops, while others are for the purpose of restoring functionality to the systems that, when functioning properly, do not allow candida overgrowth.

Some available supplements for candida include: Olive Leaf Extract (yeast killer), Black Walnut (yeast killer, black walnut has the additional quality of antifungal, anti-parasitic, and antiseptic properties), Caprylic Acid (yeast killer), Berberine (yeast killer that also contains garlic, ginger, parsley and ginseng), Cat’s Claw (yeast killer with antifungal, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties), Garlic (yeast killer (most available as odorless), Oil of Oregano (yeast killer), Pau D’Arco (yeast killer), Yeast Fighters (yeast killer with acidophilus), and Yeast Defense (contains garlic and acidophilus).

Additionally, the following are also thought to be beneficial in treating candida overgrowth: Biotin (designed to interfere with yeast growth), L-Glutamine (repairs leaky gut), NAC (neutralizes yeast toxins and helps metabolize other components that are involved in the yeast reduction process), and Pantethine (repairs the metabolic processes that are disturbed by the overgrowth of yeast).
